Lotus

The lotus roots in the mud, rises up through murky water, and unfolds flawlessly above the surface; the water beads off its petals without soiling them. Therein lies the core of its meaning: purity and awakening that arise precisely from the mud, not despite but thanks to the world in which the flower is rooted. In Buddhism, the lotus, padma, represents the mind that blossoms in the midst of samsara without being tainted by it; buddhas and bodhisattvas are depicted on a lotus throne, and the flower resonates in the prayer om mani padme hum, "the jewel in the lotus".

The lotus is one of the oldest sacred symbols of Asia and the Near East. In Hinduism, creation springs from a lotus rising from the navel of Vishnu, and deities such as Lakshmi and Saraswati are seated on the flower; the chakras are depicted as lotuses. In ancient Egypt, the blue lotus closed at night and opened at sunrise, becoming a symbol of the sun, creation, and rebirth.

Burning a candle
In many traditions across the world, burning candles is a sacred act that means more than words can say; it is about gratitude and stillness. For as long as we can remember, people have burned candles in sacred places. Perhaps you like to begin or end your day with this simple ritual, lighting a candle with attention for yourself and others.

Handmade and sustainable from Indonesia
Made from RSPO-certified palm wax, sourced from the kernel of the palm fruit. A 100% plant-based wax from sustainable agriculture. Low smoke, with a cotton wick.
Handmade in Indonesia by a WFTO-certified Fair Trade company that provides work for as many people as possible. Around eighty percent of the workers are women. The candle is cast in recycled glass and the packaging is made from recycled cardboard.

Instructions for use
Burn for at least one hour per centimetre of candle diameter each time, to ensure the best burn efficiency.
Do not burn for longer than 4 hours at a time.
Trim the wick to 0.5 cm each time before lighting the candle.
Stop using the candle once only about ±1.3 cm of wax remains at the bottom.

Attention!
Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Do not place in a draught, as this shortens the burn time.
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Place on a heat-resistant surface.
