Yerba Santa smudge bundles consist of tied, dried leaves of Yerba Santa (Eriodictyon californicum). The use of aromatic plant smoke has a long history across various cultures in North America, where Yerba Santa was used in ritual and ceremonial contexts. Today, Yerba Santa is used as botanical incense for ritual work, meditation, bodywork, or for marking a transition or conclusion.
The fragrance is warm, lightly sweet and balsamic, with a rounded, enveloping smoke.
The bundles are briefly lit and allowed to smoulder, with the smoke directed around a space, object, or person.
