A Bao Gong can be easily recognised by the raised bump in the middle, known as a bell or nipple. The nipple, when struck, helps create a clear tone. While Bao Gongs are not tuned, their notes are more resonant and pronounced.

Please note: These gongs can have small 'blisters' on their surface, this cannot be 100% avoided for handmade gongs. It is a normal phenomenon, it is not a hole or a dent, it is a bubble of the molten copper and does not affect the sound or lifespan of the gong.
Bao Gongs
Bao Gongs have a very clear and beautiful tone without as much of the shimmer found in other gongs. They have more of a bell sound with a distinctive pitch while still producing subtle harmonic overtones. In fact, the word “Bao” translates as “bell”. The sound of a Bao Gong is widely used in orchestral music, meditation and sound healing practices.
