Description
Black tourmaline | The classic protective stone, also called schorl. Associated with shielding against negativity, ill intent and (in modern belief) electromagnetic energy. Believed to ground the wearer and transmute heavy energy into a more usable form.
Pyrite | Known as fool's gold and tied to abundance and prosperity. Associated with willpower, confidence and protection. Believed to act as an energetic shield, attract money and opportunity, and stoke vitality and assertive action.
Moon phases
The moon phases show the full cycle the moon passes through, from the darkness of the new moon by way of the waxing crescent to the full moon and back again through the waning crescent to darkness. The moon gives no light of its own; what we see is reflected sunlight, and the shape that grows and shrinks is the shadow of the turning earth. As an image, the cycle stands for change and renewal: nothing stays full, nothing stays dark, and what wanes returns. It is a reminder of impermanence and of the rhythm in which growth, fullness and letting go follow one another.
The moon has measured time for as long as people have looked to the sky; the month takes its name from it, and many calendars, among them the Islamic, the Hebrew and the Chinese, still follow it. Its pull moves the tides, and in many traditions it is linked with the feminine, with intuition and with the inner, contemplative side of life. In contemporary practice the phases are often used to mark a cycle of intention, the new moon for the beginning and the full moon for what has come to fruition. The moon phases are found as jewellery, in imagery and on the altar.
